Preserving and managing family assets
Richard and Sue’s story
“We feel a genuine sense of relief having been supported through this transition and knowing we have preserved and managed the family’s assets.”
Executors bear significant responsibility in managing and distributing a deceased individual’s assets especially when some of those assets have been in the family for generations.
Richard was faced with this challenge several years ago and really felt the enormity of the responsibility that had been bestowed upon him. He knew he would need to use the services of tax and legal professionals to assist him, but administering a significant estate for the first time and finding competent professionals he could trust was daunting to say the least.
The Zone Financial team were able to bring our expertise and extensive network of trusted professionals. We were able to assist the estate to achieve the best outcomes for the relevant beneficiaries, without leading to conflicts between them, therefore avoiding significant capital flowing into the pockets of legal firms.
We assisted Richard in his role as executor, to make informed decisions about assets and distributions outlined in the will that would maximise the value of the estate for the beneficiaries while minimising tax implications. We were able to navigate sensitive situations with fairness and impartiality, helping to maintain family harmony during the estate distribution process. With a well-defined plan that adhered to the wishes of the deceased, we were able to avoid disputes and have the estate resolved in a timely manner.
Once Richard had fulfilled his duties as executor, we turned our attention to helping both him and his wife Sue to achieve their own financial goals and objectives. They’re now both successfully retired, living on the water in Sydney in a home Richard’s great grandfather built in 1914, whilst travelling regularly to visit their immediate family. Richard and Sue have created a family legacy that will continue to assist future generations.

“The responsibility of administering my family’s estate was a considerable emotional burden to carry. The Zone Financial team was able to provide objective guidance, while co-ordinating the multiple professionals that were required, to achieve the best outcome for the beneficiaries. Throughout the process they carefully and thoughtfully considered the way the estate assets could be used, to benefit Sue and I and our children in the future. Together, we have ensured my family legacy will continue to positively impact future generations and that’s an immensely satisfying feeling. Drew and the team at Zone Financial provided the support, advice and expertise we needed to really shape our future and they continue to manage the long-term strategy we have in place.”
